Mid-Century Modern Black Reclining Lounge Chair with Pull-Out Footrest by Mel Smilow, circa 1950s–1960s

A sleek mid-century modern reclining lounge chair with black upholstered body, gently sloped high back, curved arms, and tapered wooden legs. Was designed by American Designer Mel Smilow for Smilow's joint firm, Smilow-Thielle Furniture. The chair features a hidden pull-out footrest, giving it a wonderful relaxed lounge silhouette while still keeping a clean, architectural profile.

Was designed in 1950s — minimal, low-slung, and practical, with just enough detail from the buttoned back and shaped arms to feel distinctive. The underside retains original vintage tags, including upholstery/filling information and a New York retailer/manufacturer label.
