A substantial 19th-century Italian hand-carved alabaster tazza or pedestal centerpiece, measuring 10" high × 12" diameter. The broad circular bowl is surrounded by deeply undercut grapevine leaves and twisting vinework, supported by a sculptural stem formed as two intertwined dolphins, and raised on a shaped scalloped foot.

This specific combination of a vine-covered bowl with intertwined dolphin support appears on documented Italian alabaster tazze associated with the Grand Tour tradition, particularly workshops in and around Florence and Volterra. 

The dolphin was a recurring classical motif in Italian decorative arts, while grapes and vine leaves reference the imagery of Bacchus/Dionysus, making the design particularly appropriate for dining-room and table centerpieces.
