Italian Grand-Tour Hand Mirror with Micro-Mosaic Reserves, c. 1890

Gilt-brass oval hand mirror with beaded rim and foliate cast handle. The face is protected by original domed glass and centers a chromolithographed portrait of an 18th-century lady, surrounded by metallic-thread embroidery on silk (now showing the characteristic “shattered silk” craquelure). Four small micro-mosaic/enamel reserves punctuate the rim in green, white, and red—an Italian flourish from turn-of-the-century Roman/Florentine workshops. Backed with the original mirror plate.

Condition

Good antique presence with honest wear: light scratches/haze to cover glass, some patina and rub to the gilt, expected breakdown to the silk ground, and light silvering losses on the mirror. Structurally sound.
