Sarcophagus form in luminous white onyx with a thick, bevel-edged lid, gilt-brass perimeter mounts and piano hinge, and petite cast feet. Opens to a plush ruby velvet interior—made for rings, cufflinks, and keepsakes. These onyx caskets were Grand-Tour souvenirs from Tuscan workshops (Volterra/Florence), prized for the way the stone glows in lamplight.

  • Period: Late Victorian to early 20th c. (c. 1880–1910)

  • Materials: Pale celadon onyx with brass mounts; red velvet lining

  • Finish: Translucent, greenish-white stone with cloud-like veining; warm brass patina

Condition

  • Very good antique condition. Hinge tight; even color to the stone. Normal toning to the brass.
