A beautifully carved late 19th- to early 20th-century Hepplewhite-style settee, showcasing the classic shield-back design that defined the revival of George Hepplewhite’s late-18th-century furniture forms.

This example features deep, hand-carved detail throughout the back splats—note the elegant urn motif, ribbon-tied elements, and finely executed fluting. The frame is crafted from solid mahogany, finished in a warm, polished tone that highlights the carving and contours of the shield silhouettes.

The seat has been upholstered in a traditional striped textile, echoing historic English and early American parlor seating. The settee’s proportions are refined yet comfortable, making it suitable for an entryway, bedroom, or a classic parlor vignette.

This style became especially popular during the Colonial Revival period (circa 1890–1930), when American cabinetmakers reinterpreted Hepplewhite’s designs for elegant city homes and refined country estates. Pieces with this level of carving—especially twin-shield backs—were produced in small batches by better makers of the period.

A graceful, timeless piece with strong decorative presence and beautiful craftsmanship.
