French Belle Époque Beveled-Glass Jewelry Casket (c. 1880–1900)
Regular price $195.00An exquisite late 19th-century French beveled-glass casket, richly framed in ornate gilt brass with deeply chased foliate motifs. The elongated domed silhouette reflects the refinement of the Belle Époque era, when caskets were crafted as both decorative objets and intimate personal vessels.
The casket stands on elegant whiplash-form feet, each shaped with stylized acanthus leaves—typical of the Rococo Revival influence in French decorative metals of the period. Thick, slightly curved beveled glass panels surround the body, designed to catch the light and illuminate the interior. A padded velvet lining once held jewels, brooches, or sentimental keepsakes on a lady’s dressing table.
The brass framework is exceptional, with pierced foliage, scrolling ornament, and finely cast detailing running across the entire perimeter. Made in Parisian ateliers between circa 1880–1900, pieces like this were often sold in luxury jewelry houses and parfumeries as presentation boxes.
A romantic, luminous example of French Belle Époque artistry.
